Times Square, NYC
October 3rd, 2011
Coming from three different cultural backgrounds, the one thing that groupmates Tom Harman, Shanshan Gao and I had in common was the passion for design. This project took shape from that thought, we wanted to know what the New York City is passionate about. We collected data through various mediums like surveys, direct emails and decided to make a short video as a final outcome.
And so we went out to Times Square with a bunch of balloons and asked many passer-bys to write their passions on a bright helium balloon, the metaphor of a helium balloon stemmed from the simple idea of passion being as hopeful and bright as a balloon.
The online component was also designed to make views participate in the project more actively by sending in their own images with their passions written on a balloon, creating and online community centered around passion with the idea of facilitating a connection between people with similar passions and interests.
