Lori Walke, our Associate Minister of Christian Education, preaches from the Gospel of Mark, chapter 9 verses 2 thru 9, a passage known as The Transfiguration. Lori begins her sermon reflecting on the church calendar before focusing on this, the last of the "epiphany stories". This miracle narrative, Lori says, is the jumping off point to Lent on the calendar, which of course leads us to Easter. Lori notes that it wasn't the miracles of Jesus that got him killed. It was the scary and uncomfortable stuff that Jesus taught that landed him on the cross. Similarly for us, the season of Lent begins the scary and uncomfortable work of examining one's spiritual life, in order to learn to practice our faith and thus be transformed.
