[David Redhead] Tell us about your hat tonight.
[Philip Treacy] It’s an antique, 1920s silk top hat from Larks that's had a life of its own.
[David Redhead] As a milliner, you probably know best of all what makes Stephen a special milliner. What is it do you think?
[Philip Treacy] Well he has his own point of view and people who have their own point of view have more success because the world is full of copiers and there are few originals.
[David Redhead] Are you a scholar like him, a historian of hats?
[Philip Treacy] I like to make hats today, you know, people always ask if I’d preferred to have been a hat maker in kind of the 20s or 30s, but it’s much more exciting to be a hat designer of the 21st century than the 20th century because you have an opportunity to influence how people see hats in the future.
