This started out with me playin with interval record, evolved into a piece I was gonna call "LA in a Minute" and ended up being a little longer then a minute, so... for those who took the time to bear through it,

Many thanks...

On second though, I do think that it should be shorter. If it was me I'd make it a point for it to be 1 min.
  • Avi Cohen plus 9 months ago
    Agreed agreed,

And thank you Sir, really for stopin buy again to check me out...

I was just about to hit you up with it...

I am not quite done with this piece, so I must tie up a replacement shot or two and then I will work on doing a second cut, true one min version...

I will let you know when that go's down and again, thank you so much for your time and thoughts...

    -Avi Cohen

PS again, your music video is REAL nice...

It'll be cool if you could start a series with this where people do their own cities "... in a minute. I could do London in a minute. : )

Really nice video, I love the timelapse, You do that with a still camera, right? I gotta try this.
  • Avi Cohen plus 9 months ago
Thank you, very much and ya ya It can be done with a still camera or any camera for that matter with BTV Pro (bensoftware.com/btv/btvproindex.html), but in this case it was done with a Sony XDCAM EX1 video camera...

    Again, thanks for stopin through...
  • Chris Giuliano 9 months ago
Great! I'll go for it with my GL2 sometime. Can't wait to give it a go
  • Avi Cohen plus 9 months ago
Dope, let me know when you put somethin together...
  • Chris Giuliano 9 months ago
Yeah, actually just last night I shot cars going by an intersection. I did it with my still camera, though. We'll see how it turns out.
  • Avi Cohen plus 9 months ago
    You used BTV?
  • Chris Giuliano 9 months ago
No, I don't have that. I'm actually not really sure how I'm going to do this. ha. hm....gotta figure it out soon

This video is awesome! Perhaps some may see a need to shorten it, but what would you lose! There is something new and interesting in every shot. The rythym of the edits and action within frames picks up the music so well! If you do a shorter version, please keep this posted. I for one, would miss anything you cut!
  • Avi Cohen plus 9 months ago
The man with 20/20 vision, Lee Young...

Thanks so much for your time and input, I worked hard...

If I do re cut something it will for sure have every clip this one has, just for shorter durations and for sure this version will be going nowhere...

Again thanks so much for your lent time...

    -Avi Cohen

PS I just did a second cut and replaced some of the clips in the end, check it out if you please...

    Great urban shots!
    The rhythm is perfect!
I would've liked some more colour grading in some of the shots to give it a subtle atmosphere.

  • Avi Cohen plus 9 months ago
Thanks a lot, and ya ya, more color to come, this was a very rough cut...
  •
  • Cool. A lot of work there. BTW: the expression is 'bear with it' not 'bare through it'.

I was tryin to come up with a different one temporarily...

I came up with LA in 214 seconds... and uhh... ya, that was it...

  • FIVE5IVE 9 months ago
One minute - definitely. I think that's enough to time to convey the hectic pace at which the city breathes, juxtaposed with the sun seemingly slow movement. Great starting point for a dialogue...

Other than that I believe the work is good!
  • Avi Cohen plus 9 months ago
    "Dialogue"? Confused...

As for the length, I think I will at some point shorten the clips and make a one minute piece, but for sure keep this OG one...
  •
  • Superb timelapse ... tried to add a comment on our EX1 group but for some reason it wouldn't let me.

    Anyway, awesome `creative` visual.

Nice work. I drive through L.A. all the time but never found it very pretty until now... A friend of mine did a similar video with San Francisco as the subject. I think that it's along what Tito suggested "different cities time-lapse channel".
  • Avi Cohen plus 9 months ago
    Word...

    I'm glad you liked it...

"every where's a little to, somethin"

As far as Tito's suggestion, Chris Kennedy went a head and made a "Cities In A Minute" Channel:

    Again, thanks for your time,

When your in LA I would love to ride around with you for a day or so in your "hired car" and "film some shit" too...

Well, maybe it's a long shot, but if your for some reason down with it, here's my math...

Thanks so very much again for taking the time to stop through...

    Looking forward,

  • Avi, nice work. Good choice of locations. Actually, do we live on the same street? At one point I thought you were shooting from my roof! I want to talk to you privately about how you got access to all of those roof/high locations around the city. Perhaps I'll see you round. I'm near Fountain and Highland.

Nice to know you like yellow balls...

But the sun's brightness and it's apparent possession of rays, alas my boy are determined by how open your aperture is, not the lens you have on...

IE: if you watch again @ :53 seconds in to this very video, for example the sun is a "yellow ball" but was shot with the same camera and lens just at a lower F-stop...

Brief google search yealded this: cinematography.net/Pages%20GB/%5Bcml%5D%20Shooting%20the%20Sun.htm

very nice! - and I think the length is actually fine. You showed views of LA that have made be reconsider what my impressions of the city were following my visit in 1999.

I am thinking of trying to shoot my city in timelapse as well. Your video gives me even more drive to see that project to reality.

I have so far only tried one timelapse of Ayers Rock in central Australia - and that was shot with a video camera and edited with Abobe Premiere CS3. vimeo.com/5126291

Awesome, just amazing! Avi, what's the actual footage you recorded to produce the clip?
  • Avi Cohen plus 6 months ago
    Hi NG

Can you please rephrase your last question for me so I can answer it correctly...

If I understand you correctly now the answer is.... THIS is the "actual footage" I recorded to produce the clip...

Either way, Thanks for your lent time,

    -Avi Cohen
  • n.g.movies 6 months ago
I mean you could have recorded an hour, then speed it up and get a 3-min timelapse clip as a result. So what's the length of the initial footage. Is it clearer this way? :)
  • Avi Cohen plus 6 months ago
No no, timelapse is not fast forwarding, or it would be called "fast forwarding"

  • Avi Cohen plus 6 months ago

how long u take shot before u edit fast forward in post?

  • Avi Cohen plus 6 months ago
I did not "fast forward in post" at all...

This is a TIMELAPSE (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timelapse) and was shot this way in camera...

    00:23 - 00:29 was about 3 hours

    Hope this info helps,
