Two visitors from Pennsylvania, several Vestal landowners, an experienced realtor, a retired chemist, and an advocate for renter's rights speak during the public comments session following the Vestal Town Board meeting. At first, the town supervisor lays down the law because he wants to avoid 2 hours of public comments on hydrofracking. "Give me something new," he proclaims! But the people persist and all who wish to speak get to speak at least once. A Republican tea-partier and 6th-generation landowner from Pennsylvania gives a wake-up call to all who want drilling in their town; the gas-drilling companies are not friends of the landowners. A transplanted downstater and a member of the board lock horns. "Give us the buyouts!" demand the displaced homeowners. Nothing on the drilling question is settled tonight, but the debate is certainly heated and enlightening.
