At the beginning of December, the Ulster Museum held its first exhibition about street art. The exhibition, “Street Art. Tags not labels” included a talk “What is Street Art?”

The talk asked what is street art? What techniques does street artists use? Is it art or vandalism? Should it be in a museum? What is the relation between Northern Ireland’s murals and street art?

Kim Mawhinney, Head of Art for National Museums Northern Ireland explained that one of the reasons that the Ulster Museum got involved was to present an exhibition for a younger, teenage audience.

One of the artists involved in the initiative is Tim McCarthy. Eva and Ola from WIMPS.tv spoke to him.

Have you seen this exhibition? What are your thoughts?

Ulster Museum, Street Art. Tags not Labels continues until 4th of March.
