This shows a simple but really helpful feature of the material pipeline on Team Alpha. Fixing broken materials, and finding missing textures.
It's a common situtation for assets and materials to go out of date. With constant changes to the engine, a simple material can get left behind.
What the CGFX Editor did was to check the version number of the material and fix the scene for you. It also went off and found all the missing textures in the scene. This way the art team never had to waste time and could get up and running fast.
