TXTual Healing by Paul Notzold
‘The Only Certainty, Death and TXT’s’ Interactive Installation commissioned for The Leonardo for the Body Worlds exhibit in SLC. It ran from from October 08 - January 09. While people were working through the lines to the exhibit they could pass time by making a 30 foot projection of a skeleton speak by text messaging in the dialogue. The skeleton animates into different poses when it receives a text.
Special Thanks: Kersten Swinyard, Dennis Evans, and Alexandra Hesse
…and the only reason we pulled this off were the countless volunteers who dragged SMS after SMS to the “skeleton” folder for 4 months!
Skeleton animation done by Miguel Sanchez

kate 8 months agoI gather this was triggered by received text messages...cool. -
paul notzold 8 months agoyup... when a text message is received it automatically starts playing the animation. It will sit on a text speech bubble frame til a new message is received then plays to another pose. -

jacktherabbit 8 months agoi always want to find out how these projections does not have a white background but just projecting the image. normally projectors connect to computer will have a white background (even black), does it require some special device like capturer to make projection ONLY the graphic? -
paul notzold 8 months agohmmm, not sure what's going wrong for you, but if you project black it should be clear. The skeleton and the speech bubble are white on a black background, the skeleton has some greys in it, so when projected onto a white wall in low light the white will pop. black should always appear clear. If I did a white background and black text you would see the white frame and the black would be whatever the wall color is. hope that helps. -
