The Kenya Wildlife Service goal and philosophy of sustainable development is diametrically opposed to the proposed sugarcane plantation in the Tana Delta - as the Director, Julius Kipng'etich says "Conservation come first, development second" if not we will soon pay the heavy costs of restoring the environmental service providers that have been destroyed. The international convention of wetland conservation, the RAMSAR convention could help guide the people of the Tana Delta to sustainable use of their valuable resource.
