To remember the 6th anniversary of the Iraq occupation.
To warn of the looming dangers of repeating our mistakes.
To promote a social infrastructure that makes peace possible by nurturing citizen awareness and action.
To promote independent information media.
Because knowledge IS power.
Because "everyone can be an instrument for peace".
On this 6th anniversary of conflict, in recognition of the thousands who have died, the millions wounded or homeless, citizens across the nation will use their own local resources and social networks to support the rapid end to the Iraq occupation. They will be calling on their politicians and their neighbors to beware of the looming danger of repeating the same mistakes again.
The musicians and citizens of Austin are inviting everyone in town, musicians and non-musicians alike, to participate in this national/international chorus for peace. They are asking everyone to participate in this fun-yet-serious event on March21st: the Million Musicians March For Peace.
Marchers will assemble at noon at the Texas State Capitol for a rally and peace serenade. At 1:00pm, they will march and play through downtown Austin to City Hall. The event will continue at City Hall Plaza until 4:00pm, with music and words of inspiration from musicians, poets, grassroots organizers and others.
