Edward James Surreal Garden - This shows artists visting and creating during of after visitng the garden. After visiting the garden Della did a series of paintings in Puerto Vallarta of my feelings. When getting back home to Canada from visiting the Garden in Mexico looked at the images and with my nephew Rob decided to be creative with an artistic image process technique to get a moresurreal effect by transforming one image to another of the photos taken at the garden
and also of the paintings done – the process was a metamorposis and became a creative collage of sorts.
In a prophetic dream the week before going to the garden saw a surreal collage of images related to the garden. By combining the paintings, photos and the morphing technique it creates a collage with all aspects merging and combining the arts of painting, dance, film and music. Just before leaving, in Guadalajara, had another dream before making the eleven hour grueling trip through winding Sierre Madre mountain roads into
the jungle of town Xilitla in San Luis Potosi.
Saw a man at a card table who said, “You are coming to meet the artist!”- to me it felt like Edward James himself and I was excited to be going the next day to the garden. I found him a very
inspiring artist in that he created a wonderful alternative reality for himself.
Della Burford
Edward James was an eccentric poet and artist who was
Edward VII’s grandson. He sponsored and was friend and
patron to various artists including Salvador Dali, Magritte
and Stravinsky. He was living in Mexico and had of vision of a white light and hundreds of butterflies who landed. He felt afterwards he should create a garden in the jungle and give it to the people in the area. He thus created what is now known as the Edward James Garden or La Pozas.
