A short video of our last snowstorm. February 29, 2012
The song is " The Three Ravens" an old English folk ballad, published in 1611.
I shot this through the car windshield, using a suction mounting device to hold the camera. I wanted to keep the camera out of the weather, and I like the visual effect of rain on the window. I had to leave the car running to keep the window from fogging up. I thought it wold be a good test, seeing how much vibration the camera picked up. I was shocked by the movement. The car acted like the rhythm section of a band, and the video had a constant and rhythmic vibration that would almost make you dizzy.
So it brought up another test, I discovered that After Effects has a effect called the Warp Stabilizer. It took a couple of days, but I figured out how to use After Effects, and I processed each clip in this video using a different parameter . All the camera vibration was removed, and I can control how much movement I get due to choppy tripod panning/tilting and such.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the results, and more than a little impressed with After Effects. Lots more to learn here, but it solved the issues with this footage perfectly.
