I have a few handle for sale here :

TUTORIAL "how I built my steadycam" : vimeo.com/10202711

EDIT : video is now converted 30p > 24p with cinematools + compressor...

Just a quick word...
It is a first test of my DIY camera stabilizer, specialy designed for the Canon 5DMKII + 16/35 2,8 L. Low cost but High quality smooth moov ! Steadicam Merlin was toooooooo expensive for me !

Special gimbal design seen on youtube by WSCLATER. (Skateboard ball bearing and universal joint)...
Really easy to made for less than 60$, a little time and very few tools !

Please add your comment and feels about footage, so I could work to improve the design. I could work on a video tutorial as well.

Please download original file for max quality...

I would love a video tutorial Jean-Michel. I have just sold my Manfrotto Modosteady because it couldn't handle the weight of my new 5D2 so I am wondering what to get to replace it.

I have already made a home made FrigRig and a home made dolly, why not complete the set and make a home made steadycam like yours! Brilliant.

    thanks for sharing that
    Avey

You fly it like a pro! Just try to keep your horizon more at level during your pans and turns. The "roll" is a little distracting...

This is a very cool video but it deterred me from buying the 16-35 2.8L lens. While inside fabulous, I can see very strong flaring and ghosting outside. Did you use a lens hood?

Can you please upload a 30fps version ? The 30 to 24fps conversion has created very intrusive judder (as can be expected) and really spoils this clip.
I would like to see how smooth this motion can be.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Jean!

You left me without words! Can You suggest where to buy things needed for this steadycam to build it???

I'm coming to Paris to shoot a short fiction film in July and I am searching for places where to lend or to buy a steadicam/DIY dolly tracks for Canon 5D Mark II.

    with appreciation on Your work-
    Janis

Chapeau bas!

i am cinematographer who came to paris to shoot a short film with 5D Mark II. Could you reccomend where to buy a stedicam DIY like this??? This is much more better than alternative ones.

I first saw this video when it was uploaded last April. For several months after, I researched hundreds of designs, watched countless sample videos, and never found a version that looked as good as yours. I then gave up, deciding to wait a few months and see if something better came out. Having just checked back, I am still proud to say yours is the best. Can we please get an English video tutorial, and perhaps a parts list? Please don't make us beg...

Hey , Thanks for posting that! Its amazing considering that is a home made rig. I have the Mondo Steadi, pretty much a piece of crap.....although it works well to rig a s shoulder support when shooting with my T2i. Please have a look at my page, I posted a few videos I shot with my new DSLR.

Awesome job. All the parts are pretty standard, and widely available (Hobby Lobby link in the tutorial comments is key to finding the right the universal joint) EXCEPT the two silver cylinders into which the skateboard bearing and threaded bolt are friction fit. Does anyone have any idea what these are, what they might be from, or how to find them in the US?
