March 5, 2012 produced some incredible rain totals for many parts of the island of Kaua'i. As the ground was already saturated from storms the previous week, the water had nowhere to go. This stream borders the arboretum in the Wailua Homesteads. Most days you can cross it on a "submerged" bridge. On this day the waters rose fast and several persons were stuck on the other side. The owner of the truck reportedly made several trips across the raging stream to rescue the stranded people. On his last trip, the truck apparently stalled and shortly thereafter the stream lifted and pushed the truck off the bridge and into the streambed. Fortunately no one was hurt. This video is the poster child for the phrase, "turn around, don't drown."
