A while ago, I read about Chinese Zeiss lens knockoffs called Cinematics, being sold for about a third of the price of a Zeiss lens: nofilmschool.com/2011/12/cinematics-ct-2-lenses-chinese-knockoffs/
Since I live in China I ordered a 50mm f1.4 - it cost me less than 1,000 USD and was delivered the same week.
My first chance to try it out was at a bar this weekend, when I was carrying it with me, and my friend brought a Canon 5D Mark II to the same place.
I myself had already had a couple of beers at the time, and didn't really bother with any camera settings. Hence I was even more surprised how well it came out, given the bar was dark and ISO was (I guess) set to automatic.
What do you think - is this Chinese knockoffs as good as Zeiss? It came in a (too small) Zeiss box, with Zeiss guarantee papers. I will try it out more when I get my hands on a 5D Mark II.
