Man, I just watched all of his videos and they really sucked. THANKS FOR THE COMPARISON. This was just the beginning of me actually explaining the idea so that I didn't have to write it down. But now maybe I can get my MFA and be an arteest!

I was just saying that's what it reminded me of. Not that you you were "copying" him or should be like him.

No worries. I'm a long time basher of video art because most of it is lazy. The good stuff is good though. I guess I would call it my focus during film school.

That's going to be in a techno-synth song pretty soon.

Hey dude (glad you hated my videos), I'll admit some Video Art is lazy. But I program most of mine by hand and I purposefully use a low aesthetic to mimic demo culture which has been popularized by youtube... I'd love to see where "yourself as a computer" is going. We're at an awesome point in video art history where the computer is taking over from the camera as the primary input source. (if you've done any reading on video art history or theory, you'll know how huge this is).

This isn't even intended as video art, so it's not really going anywhere. The rest of the video (after this part) is me explaining an idea for a comedic short.

Half of your videos on your website didn't even have their corresponding soundtracks, even when I downloaded the files.

From what you've written here, you pretty much perpetuate my ideas of lazy video artists who make overly simplistic projects (it would be pretty easy to make a Max patch to duplicate what you did) and then try to shield themselves with this academic superiority that doesn't add anything to the actual substance of the video and only serves as a defense against anyone who dares question them.

"Of course you wouldn't understand my video that uses technology that's packaged with some webcams, you haven't read the right art history book."

hmmm, you're pretty agro for a community leader.
strange about the sound. You can check them out on youtube though.

I don't normally respond to flames because it's silly. Yes i use max, yes i use webcam software. In fact most videos I do use webcams. I'm not claiming superiority, I have no need to. I'm a nice man who's genuinely interested in what you and the rest of my community are doing. I am quite "anti-academic" as far as "recognized" video artists go. I even believe in entertainment. That said, there are plenty of academic things that have inspired me over the years and that I believe in.

It's nice to have things you believe in. We can all learn from each other.

I don’t think you’re being treated fairly here.

I'm not flaming you. I'm just giving you my honest opinion. Being a community director doesn't mean I forego my own personal beliefs. I appreciate your civil attitude, but this is something I have strong opinions about, so those are what you get from me when you probe me.

As a human being, I have nothing against you.

    well, I'm hooked.
This seems like it could turn into a fruitful discussion.
Even if going to Youtube didn't really help my impression of the work...

I still think Vimeo could be a place where a really interesting Video art could be seen and made...

and I guess I see the resemblance to "full Effect" Geo was pointing to.
