Joey is a beautiful American Pit Bull Terrier and Catahoula mixed breed with gorgeous baby-blue eyes and a spectacular red-brindled coat. He is an outgoing charmer with people and plays well with many male and female dogs of similar size, and even some of the smaller ones! Joey is a big guy, but he's also gentle, so he can be placed in a home with children. But no cats, please. As you can see from the photo, Joey is a bit of a couch potato, but he enjoys a good, brisk walk and has earned the highly coveted position of the shelter director's walking and office companion. Of course to have earned this position means Joey is smart, friendly, and well-mannered. We have also found him to be a dog with a moderate energy level, and very curious about the world around him. He is resilient and strong-willed and responds well to firm guidance. Come meet gentle Joey and be prepared to become smitten with his affectionate, sweet temperament and playful ways.
Joey attends weekly BAD RAP Pit Ed training classes where he is learning his basic commands and is also gaining valuable socialization that has helped him improve his behavior around other dogs. We have found him to be a dog with a moderate energy level, and very curious about the world around him. He is a resilient, strong-willed dog who responds to firm guidance. If you can provide the guidance that has been missing from Joey’s life, he will no doubt love you in return!

Adoption Criteria (Non Bully Breeds):
In order to qualify as an adopter, you must bring proof of home ownership or your rental contract showing you are allowed to have pets before the adoption can be completed. If you're coming to adopt a new family or household pet, please bring your family members or other members of the household with you to the shelter -- including any other dogs in the family. We want to make sure your new dog is a good fit for both 2-leggers and 4-leggers alike.
Additional Adoption Criteria (Bully Breeds):
If you're applying to adopt a bully breed, in addition to the above, your rental contract must specifically state you are allowed to have a bully breed dog at your residence; you must be over 25 years of age; and you must pass a home inspection before the adoption can be completed.
As an added bonus, when you adopt a pit bull through BACS, you can attend Bad Rap's Pit Ed training classes for FREE (normal fee $100). These classes are extremely popular and can have a 6 month waiting list. But, when you adopt a pittie from us, you get to skip the wait and start attending classes right away. You won't find this incredible opportunity through any other shelter. You can read more about Bad Rap's Pit Ed on their website: badrap.org/
