CMA began its partnership with PS 347, American Sign Language and English Lower School, in the fall of 2008, bringing into residency one teaching artist to serve 190 children. By 2012, CMA's Artist-in-Residency program expanded to serve a total of 270 students, pre-k through 8th grade, many of whom had not participated in an arts class in over a year. Teaching Artists collaborate with school teachers and librarians to create a customized curriculum that spans a range of mediums and subjects.
In 2012, the program was subject to budget cuts, but CMA and PS 347 are committed to sustaining their partnership through alternative funding. To learn more about CMA's partnership programs, visit cmany.org.
