Music Video for the artist Mike Edel.

Big thanks to Nigel Barry for driving with no shame, dodging cops like no other and not getting into an accident until we finished shooting the video.

Shot on HVX200 with Letus Adapter.

    Jordan -

Really nice you have a knack for pairing image, movement, and sound together in a beautiful package. Personally I was sort of jolted a little bit when the biker pulled up to the fence hopped over and then the next shot he was back riding around the city. You have such a strong narrative development that you broke from and then you continued with after that. Anyway those are my thoughts ... It is a music video so you can basically do whatever you want and its great. Keep up the good work I look forward to seeing it.

  • Absolutely stunning. I admire your work more than anyone else's here online. You have a keen eye for framing and pacing and your pictures move with grace. I come back often to watch your videos and learn. Thanks!

Great work Jordan. I can't add anymore than what's been said.
  •
  • Thaddeus Setla 8 months ago
I will agree... your framing is beautiful and using the letus worked well, but you probably could have done just as good a job without it and had more in focus shots, either way this was a very well done video and sunset was beautiful. Nice to see the HVX out there...

the letus gives it such a better feel imo

do you have a method for getting such steady shots from when your in the car(guessing thats what your in) in front of him on the bike.

or is it just simply a tripod shot thats stabilzed in post for the little bumps?
  • Christopher Ruffell plus 6 months ago
Jordan, I too am curious to how you steadied the camera so well in the car while moving; do you mind sharing your technique?
  • Jordan Clarke plus 6 months ago
I used a truck with the back completely open I then took a few pieces of plywood and put them between my camera and my camera's rods like a cross and put my knees on the two different sides of the plywood so it bent around the rods to the ground. I also straitened all the shots in after effects. A lot of shots did turn out shaky, thats partly why it took 5 days to film. Trying to capture a certain line on a certain street downtown with cars all around while hanging out of the back of a truck with a gunlike camera and cops all around can take a few shots. The bridge shot took an hour, because it took 10-20 minutes to get back at the same location we started at.
  • Christopher Ruffell plus 6 months ago
Thanks for the explanation Jordan, though I'm still not sure if I understand completely. Are you saying the camera was braced to the truck's body as firmly as possible? I can tell it took quite the effort - it shows in the quality! 5 days, wow. I'll be attempting some shots from a car soon.. I have access to a suction mount, and even then the tests are shaky, so I'm pondering doing it hand held which I've had some success with in the past. The AE motion stabilization sure worked, because the shakiness-level is low low low. I wondered if you had a gimbal or something along those lines.

For the that track side to side, were those hand held, or an indie-slider?

W.O.N.D.E.R.F.U.L! I really liked your mood with the depth/blur

the only thing that i thought was a bit weird was the endshot @ 3:50, just doesn't really feel like the right shot to end with, and i notice the boy on the left a bit too much (who looks a bit like he doesn't care). The shot is nice but we've seen it 2 times already(both times in the right place). maybe the guy should have ended up alone again in the end.
  • Blake Whitman staff 8 months ago
yeah, I agree, that shot is a little jarring.
  • Jordan Clarke plus 8 months ago
you maybe right, the artist actually played an actual show for that shot. We wanted the video to transition into a real live show where you can hear the people in the crowd singing along. I dont know if it works
  • Tomasz Chrzanowski 8 months ago
And the guy who i playing the guitar should pretend he is doing that with left hand ... ;)
Anyway I loved the video and your great camera work!

I got a question u shot that in slow mo what did you have to do to sync the audio and video. Did you speed the audio up when u shot it and if so by how much. Or u can just tell me what u did. I shoot with an HVX too
  • Jordan Clarke plus 8 months ago
i shot the slow footage at 36 fps (outputed to 24fps), we then made a version of the song at 150% then had Mike sing to the sped up version.

    this was amazing
quick question, what lenses are you using with your letus. I currently have canon fd lenses due to cheapness, but these looked amazing compared to mine. and also, what kind of car rig did you use?
  • Jordan Clarke plus 8 months ago
    Thanks a lot man.
I used a 50 dollar nikon lens, 50mm f/2 for the most part. For the sillouettes i didn't use the letus just zoomed in. The last shot i used a nikon 24mm f/2. For the car rig i just slid a piece of plywood between the camera and the rails then put my knees on it and had the back of the truck open. Hope thats helpful
  • John Note plus 8 months ago
Nice. a truck is what i need! haha. im going to have to check out the nikon lenses, they seem to look a little nicer than the canons, or maybe its just because im new to the adapter in general. but thanks for the info!
