King Elephant's heading out on a national tour this summer and we need your help to make this tour and documentary happen. This video asks for your help (yeah you, independent music fan) through our kickstarter page. We have 60 days to raise 2,000 dollars. Support independent music and filmmaking!
King Elephant is a punk rock band based in Missoula, MT and are going on their first national tour in June/July 2012. I, Tim Goessman, have decided to work in the field documenting it as opposed to sitting in an office doing an internship.
This first person documentary aims to provide an intimate look at the pains, anguishes, frustrations, joys, and pure exhilaration of a relatively unknown band taking on the seemingly insurmountable challenge of booking and playing a month long tour in support of an independent label release. From unresponsive promoters to van breakdowns to band meltdowns to the alienation of DIY mentality in western society, tour makes for great drama. It's not easy to make it happen and we need your help.
This film offers the unique opportunity for viewers to step into the underground punk scene of the United States and see a self-created, anti-commercial world of independent artists, activists and fans.
In addition to ensuring we don't die on the road due to malnutrition and that we have homes to return to, we also have to think about how we get ourselves from point A to point B, how we are going to document it, and what happens when all of that falls apart.
That's where you come in. Both King Elephant and I have decided to approach this as a joint venture so that funds raised will be mutually beneficial to both the tour and to the documentary. Money will go to van and film equipment rentals and general transportation costs.
