1. Realtime Cube Experiments
This is some realtime rendering experiments I made few months ago. I have always used "complex" shapes and 3d models before in my demos and never played with cubes before. This is actually a challenge for me, to make something watchable that only contains cubes. Hopefully, with the help of Simon [http://www.vimeo.com/user172715/] I will manage to do something interesting just with this cool shapes.

Rendering contains some kind of Ambient Occlusion, and real motion blur. I still need to improve those thou, but that's not the point at this stage.

I like the quality and softness of ambient occlusion. Is it calculated real-time?

haha, indeed. Actually the executable is around 20 kb, but it's not optimized, at all. Anyway, I'm tired of making 4 kilobyte demos, I need a rest ;)

v3ga, the ambient occlusion is realtime of course (I could not afford to precompute it for each frame). Well, it's an approximation to ambient occlusion, but it makes the job well enough.

    thx 4 the coments

really nice! constructive critics: additional syncing of each individual object to the music would really add depth to it, now it feels a bit like the music belongs to the demo only at the start of each scene..

heh that was really impressive to watch, i loved the way they changed colour, reminded me a lot of the sony bravia tv ad, with the coloured bouncy balls, nicely done!

still cant believe that this is real time. really impressive! is this c? or what language did you use?
  •
  • Inigo Quilez 6 months ago
    Yep, it's C.
Markus, good remark, I will put some fft stuff on it next time :)

Was this programmed in low-level machine code like a real demo? You mentioned the file size was about 20kb, so I assume it is. Ahg, the awesomeness is frustrating, I wish I knew how to program that well! Hats off to you sir.

this is really cool....i was going to ask how you did it, but it looks like you programmed it yourself...incredible. Something like this would be useful for motion graphic artists. I'd love to get my paws on something like this! :)
