Here's a new animation I'm working on. It's depicts the degradation of Hydroxyapatite during Bone Resorption. Bone Resorption is a cyclic remodeling process that occurs in our bones. A balance exhists in this process which equalizes the degradation and rejuvination of our bones. This balance keeps our bones both healthy and new. If this naturally destructive process is not kept in check, it then creates a disease state known as Osteoporosis. This animation tries to represent the two components of spongy bone, Hydroxyapatite and Callogen Fibers, in an architectural context. To do so, the Hydroxy matrix is visualized as a more angular, stone like form while the organic Callogen Fiber's naturally intertwined weave leads to a more rope or cable like structure.
Both the Hydroxyapatite (clear white columns) and the Callogen Fibers (spiraling yellow chains) where derived from the RCSB protein database.
