This is my first long distance mission flying the BigAss wing.
The flight plan was a simple one:
Cruise along the coast from Tapanappa in the Deep Creek Conservation Park, and turn around at Newland Head, 24Km away.
The BigAss carries 30,000mAh of 3s lipos, so endurance was never going to be an issue.
The only difficulty was, at long range, maintaining sufficient elevation to get a good video return.
At long range, an altitude of 2200ft above launch = only 1 degree of elevation, so the video suffered a little.
I featured a lot of the RTH footage as I think it is excellent to see the RVOSD Gen5 working so well. It tracked like a hungry homing pigeon, (or a cruise missile) right down to zero, then circled overhead.
I was so confident in the autopilot I actually took off the goggles, put down the R/C, walked 100m away from the ground station and phoned the plane, which responded with an SMS of its position! Great fun.
