Opening title sequence for the BBC drama serial "The Life and Loves of a She-Devil" which I designed and directed in 1986.
The drama, based on the Fay Weldon novel, was directed by Philip Saville and produced by Sally Head. It deals with the dark story of a rejected un-pretty woman seeking revenge over her husband's beautiful lover by appropriating her rival's exact body image through the painful means of cosmetic surgery.
The sequence depicts the facial changes the she-devil undergoes in order to assume her rival's physical identity set in a cabalistic symbol seen against the elements of air, earth, fire and ice. The separate elements - photography, stock footage, computer generated graphics and motion control rostrum camera work were digitally combined using image manipulation software pioneered by the BBC.
The title sequence was nominated for a BAFTA craft award in 1986.
