Global responsibility is a key aspect of the TIS mission statement and as such, global responsibility is woven into the PYP and MYP curricula. In addition to the curriculum, there is a tradition at Tokyo International School to allocate one day for us all to pause and reflect about our responsibility as global citizens. This day is called ‘Global Responsibility Day’ and this academic year it fell on Friday the 30th of September.
During this day the school community takes some kind of shared, positive action to raise awareness and to take responsibility for our fragile, world.
This year the theme was recycling and we expressed our message through a giant work of recycled art. The artwork was hung in the entrance hall or the gym to raise awareness.
The artwork was made up of twenty-five large squares of art which when assembled together will create an image of the earth. Each of the twenty-five classes in the school was responsible for creating their own square on Global Responsibility Day.
