NOTES ON A RECENT ARRIVAL
JANUARY 24, 2012 - MARCH 24, 2012
“Notes on a Recent Arrival” features selected works by six University of Oregon art faculty members: Carla Bengtson, Craig Hickman, Colin Ives, Dan Powell, Jack Ryan, and Kartz Ucci. Drawn from the ideas emerging from “The Long Now” concurrently on exhibit at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art in Eugene, "Notes on a Recent Arrival" explores the dynamic interactions between agent and environment. It takes its title from a 1995 essay by art historian Lucy Lippard, in which she laments a loss of connection to the sites we inhabit in the postmodern era, and argues for a renewed relationship to our surrounding environments—one that “makes connections visible.” "Notes on a Recent Arrival" and “The Long Now” are curated by Stamatina Gregory, an independent curator and critic from New York City.
