"The danger in thinking that a place like McDonald's is not worth remembering is that these are the places you spent your formative years in. They actually form a stronger foundation for your personhood than a religious or heritage site that you may have only known about through history textbooks." – Yee Yeong Chong, Singapore Memory Project
When news broke that we would be saying goodbye to yet another one of Singapore's unofficial icons, we decided to embark on a small project to capture some of the memories that Singaporeans have made at ECP McDonald's. We spent a couple of days camping out at Macs, talking to the crew and to Singaporeans who had intentionally made that final trip down to Marine Cove that day to bid farewell to a place that has been part of so many of our childhood memories.
We were pleasantly surprised by how willing both the McDonald's crew and our fellow Singaporeans were to share their stories with us. Thank you!
