This timelapse shows Redoubt Volcano erupting around sunset on March 27 2009. The photos are at 15 second intervals, speeded up to 30 frames a second (so 450x speeded up) and the volcano is about 80 miles away from the camera, at my house near Seldovia. The large explosion near the middle of the video happened at 7:25pm.

Wow! Think of all the greenhouse gas being spewed! Better turn off our lights again (for the next 10 years or so).

Great video though. Thanks for sharing.

Great videos. I also love all those lightning pics. I've always wanted to see a picture of volcanic eruption produced lightning. I work with the National Weather Service and am developing in-house Volcanic Ash Trajectory Forecasting Training. I would like your permission to use the video for training and outreach purposes.

    Thanks!

Fantastic video of the eruption! I found the URL on the Carleton geology alumni website. We're living in Anchorage, but haven't had a good view of the volcano since before the first eruptions.

Nice! I am moving to LCNP next month, and can't wait to get some up-close timelapses of that fiery furnace.
