i only know how to do long fades. hahaha. someday i'll bust out a short one, but probably not anytime soon. ;-)
  • Ian Lucero plus 9 months ago
I've been wanting to do an entire film where it is just one long fade. Makes no sense. But I've been thinking about it for years.
  • loonachic plus 9 months ago
really? i kinda did that with one of my vacation videos.
  • Ian Lucero plus 9 months ago
which one? i wanna see. I'm just having a hard time figuring out what images to use.
  • loonachic plus 9 months ago
this one vimeo.com/1792141 i used my little canon sd1000 with one vide of me and long fades with photos. i'm a sucker for long fades.

Forget what I said last night about the iron fence. I watched it again and it's more like I'm seeing the bars that keep me trapped and as the frame moves up I think about getting out, but then it fades to black as if I close my eyes and pass from this world into death. Very strong imagery, I enjoyed this very much.
  • loonachic plus 9 months ago
thanks danielle! i can't tell you how much i enjoyed last night (i'll probably repeat this on facebook, but i can't help myself) i was in the presence of so much brilliance and talent that it blows my mind that i was allowed to show my video to such an amazing group. it was truly a dream come true!

i made a stop motion video of parts of the evening and i took a little video too. i'm going to play with the photo and video right after typing this note :-) (can't wait to get my hands on it)

please tell gregg i said thank you.

let's definitely get together for dim sum. we can work something out with schroeds too so you don't have leave him alone for so long.

I am moved by this, in a quiet, deep way. Your view, your eyes, linger and move on images in a way that makes me feel I am right there, that I am seeing it directly. How do you do that?
As part of your audience, you have no idea how glad I am that you keep showing us what you see :)

Reverend Jim Jones... right before he told everyone to drink the koolaid and kill themselves. Like the video but all I could think about is Jones Town.
  • loonachic plus 9 months ago
yeah. jonestown...it's chilling. i have a half hour sound byte just before and during the kool aid drinking. it's pretty insane. glad you like the video.

That was awesome man, all beautifully composed shots. I'm an enormous fan of the very first one. That little tree sitting on its own - it's just gorgeous. What camera are you using?
  • loonachic plus 9 months ago
Thanks Jon! I just graduated from a Canon SD 1000 Digital Elf to a Canon 5D Mark II. It's one heck of a transition in technology and performance that's for sure. Not that I have a camera that can support my ideas, I have a feeling I'm going to be spending the majority of my summer shooting video and taking photos.

    Thanks for the nice comment!
  •
  • Les Hillis plus 9 months ago
Mmmm, the gravity. The transition from the first to the second shots works for me because of the way the music comes in and overwhelms the spoken words at the same time. It's kind of like, shut the fuck up, it's time to die now. And we do, and they did. The resignation in his voice replaced by images to which we must also resign ourselves. You can't make sense of it, just accept the blurring of the senses and rise above, or beyond, or whatever. But then, wait, we're still alive, as the voice comes back, with all it's gravity and bullshit rationalizations, and it's like, thank God I wasn't there with them, thank God I'm here instead. So yeah, thanks for that little reminder. It's good to be alive. So much more could be said, the clip's loaded, but I'll just thank you again, for sharing the artistry.

Interesting concept. Life goes on as others end. The speech of Jimmy Boy with the simple pleasures of a walk, a run, a tree. Nicely conceived.

It makes me feel sadder for those lost souls. Terrible waste of good lives.

beautiful work. i was wondering from where did you find the words that i hear at your video at the start/end (((?))
  • loonachic plus 8 months ago
    Hi John,

The words are from the Jonestown Massacre. You can read more about it here.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonestown

It's really sad what happened to those people. I have a 30 minute sound clip of the events just before people died.
