This animation was created by Jennifer E. Fairman for the Department of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The ability to move requires that the brain communicate with the brain and spinal cord communicate with muscles. In paralysis, this circuit is disrupted. Solutions to this problem are being studied where in one approach, motor neurons can be regenerated using mouse embryonic stem cells. This animation illustrates this process.
