This is summary video of game 5 of the GTHL minor midget championship series, played at Herb Carnegie Arena in Toronto. The Marlboros are winning 6 points to 2 in a best of 8 points series, a win tonight will seal the championship for the Marlies.

Pregame Setup

With the Marlies winning the first three games, the Rebels had their backs to the wall. Under the leadership of co-captains Robert Fabbri and David Miller the Rebels took game four and grabbed a handhold in the best of eight points series. The Marlies had no interest in letting the rebels back into the series, making this game important in order to send a statement leading into the OHL Cup Tournament. With their head coach suspended, the Marlies turned to Josh Ho-Sang, Connor McDavid and the rest of their deep bench to close out the series. There was little doubt this would be a hard hitting and spirited game with plenty of talent being scouted ahead of the OHL draft. With all the chips on the table, who would rise up and perform?

Post-Game Analysis

In a storybook ending, underage phenom Connor McDavid (granted exception status for the OHL draft on March 22nd) scored with 21 seconds remaining to give the Marlies the GTHL championship. Incredible, especially since it was McDavid who scored with 10.7 seconds remaining to seal the Kraft Cup as GTHL regular season champions, against this very same Rebels team.

The game featured Sam Addison scoring off the opening draw, eight seconds into the match. It was followed up with a second goal by Michael Cramarossa (from McDavid) in the second period giving the Marlies a 2-0 lead, with all the momentum.

After Greg Allen took a four minute penalty on a head shot against David Miller, the Rebels took advantage of a bad Marlies line change and scored a Harlem Globetrotters Goal, Robert Fabbri to Brett Evans to Jake Hargrave. This appeared to shift the momentum solidly back to the Rebels and they scored on a broken play shortly after that, Santino Centorame to Kyle Jenkins to Damian Bourne, tying the game 2-2.

This set up a tense third period with both teams exchanging good scoring chances. Goalies Mathew Robson and Dawson Carty played well, with some help from goal posts and forwards sacrificing their bodies.

In the end it was McDavid (Jared Walsh, Sam Addison) scoring with 21.7 seconds remaining that put the dagger into the heart of the Rebels.

Congratulations to the Marlies!

On a personal note, I'm very proud of two PEAC (Premiere Elite Athletes Collegiate) students that often shoot for me and demonstrate the work ethic and personality required to be top pro's. I'm talking about Connor McDavid and Josh Ho-Sang. Congrat's guys, well done! Your hard work (talent is not accidental) is paying off...

This video is for you.

Enjoy.
