After an initial meeting back in January, the Pulsera Project came out in full to the rural sugarcane town of La Isla just outside of Chichigalpa to spend time with the people there. The people of this region are affected heavily by CKD, Chronic Kidney Disease, with some 70% of men in this particular community testing positive for this fatal illness rendering the community with a numbing rate of widows. (learn more: laislafoundation.org) In true Pulsera fashion the family showed up with tons of chicken, soccer balls, and questions for the people of La Isla who were eager to spend the day with a dynamic young group from another part of the country. INTERCAMBIO is about getting to know one another and having fun regardless of the more serious circumstances the people face day to day.
Watch La Isla: A Cycle of Death (vimeo.com/33834697) to learn more about CKD and efforts being made to put an end to exploitative working conditions.
