this is the longer version of my entry for the Clytemnestra ReMash Challenge.

the female dancer (Blakeley White-McGuire) is playing the part of Cassandra, a prophetess who sees visions of evil. she warns the people that the king is being murdered.

the male dancer (Kerville Jack) plays the part of the Messenger of Death, which is not a specific character from Greek Drama but was created by Martha Graham to create an atmosphere of foreboding and inevitability. this abstract figure can represent many things: Fate, Fear, Guilt, Inevitability, Karma, etc. in this solo, the Messenger of Death sets the tone for Graham’s telling of the Agamemnon saga in Clytemnestra.

a symbolic metaphor was established between the characters and our planet's many warnings of the serious and eventual irreversible consequences of climate change.

here's a link to my official entry for the competition. it is a shorter edit...

i like the flowing dancing sequence at the very beginning and the polygone fractals in the sky. lets say, the whole abstract stuff. at min 2:50 i dismiss the Google Images. in my opinion to different in relation to the rest and with an accusatory finger.
  • thank you andreas. i appreciate the feedback.

Constant change is our life. There were time for us to ignore and now it's time for us to pay attention to change. We can do little things to help this life to continue to share with next generation. Under our respect, things can improve. It's all up to us. Either ignore it or do something about them.
Jacob, I am very happy and glad that you turn your talent in to use to share what it really matter's for all of us. That is the love you share as a artist from your heart and I really appreciate your participath on change's in our life. We can not dumb about it.
More we are aware of our life, we will learn to share our life properly. I believe in that. Our world to share humbly as a wandler of the world.
Wonderful, wonderful sharing and it made my heart feel warm by watching your sharing.
We don't worry about it but we must do something about it.
Have a wonderful day and see you again Jacob.

I LIKE SO MUCH THE SOUNDTRACK
so what i prefer is the abstract part where lines become like sharp cities and geometric chaotic storms...
great work of color and rythm...
i'm not fond of pictures of earth and so...
But you succed a very good piece with the dancing part... a "Muybridge" style in video a very good way to give the feeling of what movement can be...
  • wow such a great compliment! thanks!

    I agree with andreas martini.
I like the first part of the dance, but the abstract part does not have much connection from the formal aspect. It is very difficult to work in a figurative and abstract elements and give a unit concept. But Godino does not think so, he,he.
  • ok - thanks hipnosia. i definitely value these suggestions and critiques!

the abstract parts were included to communicate dynamically and expressively (and were very fun to make), however, i thought that some concrete facts and images needed to be included to communicate on a more "definitive" level. so that there was no mistake about the sincerity of the message...

maybe the problem is the abrupt transition between abstract and concrete.

i've made a shorter edit for my offical entry for the competition youtube.com/watch?v=bv58GHekjeU&feature=channel_page but maybe one day i'll come back to this and make yet another edit which succeeds in communicating on both levels all in one mix (and doesn't have fuzzy and blurry typography!)

In fact there are three types of language: figurative, expressionistic and geometric abstraction.
I do not doubt the sincerity of the message
  • interesting - thx

    Hi Jacob

I enjoyed this a lot though I agree with some of the other comments which said that the Google images felt a little stylistically out of place. I think this is because everything else is so heavily processed that when these straight images appear they grind the video to a halt. Maybe you intended them to have this effect and if so, more power to you but that was just my only quibble after the first viewing. Overall great video though!
  • thanks mike. i've gotten some good "online critique" for this video !

  • This is great, good work jacob
