shot on PMW EX3 and the Cinemek g35.

Starring Philip and Arnie Bloom

Music is by Stereolab

This film actually does have a narrative to it.

It is about my father and I. Both of us have visited this magical please separately many times but never together. The way it jumped cut between us emphasized this. Only in the end shot do we come together and then go back to our separate lives. It shows how similar we are but how we have grown apart through distance and only by making an effort can we maintain our bond...

What program did you use to colour grade?
  • Philip Bloom plus 8 months ago
magic bullet looks, says it at end
  • Philip Bloom plus 8 months ago
am making a video showing how I did the grade. check out philipbloom.co.uk in next few days to see it
  • i say 8 months ago
Thanks Philip :) Will keep a lookout for the update.

How do you think FCP colour grading options compare to magic bullet?
  • Philip Bloom plus 8 months ago
you can do a lot with the basic plug ins, but Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Quick Looks can add so much...I put my reputation on line with that, so much so that I have convinced Redgiant to give visitors to my website 20% off if they buy with the code from it. Everyone should have it. It's awesome!

Great! Thanks for taking time to reply to my post :)

I think I will have to look into magic bullet too.

Philip nice job! I like how you used the song to motivate your editing. If people want to call them jump cuts then fine. In my opinion your cuts were perfect for the song. if it was done any other way then it would not fit for that song.

I would also like to echo two other posts.
    1. Ashley Harrison love the new style of editing it is not like your other films.

    2. Tom Guilmette
    love that cine saddle.

    Cheers!

    thanks!

Hmmmm...not too many people noticed this! 8-)

Super technology and artful effect. In hopes of providing something helpful in the way of critique, I just observe that the characters did not seem to relate in any way noticeable. Perhaps something to show they are brothers or friends and shared time in this intriguing spot.
That said, I'll just watch it again and try not to drool so much this time.
  • Philip Bloom plus 8 months ago
the idea was to show how this is a place both myself and my dad have visited at different times in our lives. We come together in the end and go our separate ways.

Great plasticity. I like the way you changed the shapes and forms. Including giving us differing views of the guys in this cool looking environment!

Mr. Bloom, you know that shots are great, and I love the cuts (you know you can tell a lot about a man by the way he cuts), but the storyline is a little too artsy for my taste. I'd love to watch your shooting on a seriously well-narrated story.
  • Philip Bloom plus 8 months ago

    Great job again Phillip.

How did you enjoy using the Cinemek vs The Letus? Very different price points if i'm not mistaken.

I hope your aren't obligated to say one or the other ;)

    Best
  • Philip Bloom plus 8 months ago
they are very different Claudio. Like different film stocks. Am lucky that I have both. The Letus has a flip and is more sensitive in low light. The cinemek has a wicked film look.

in front of the Cinemek G35 or is it just the ex3 lens? it just looks great awesome work man
  • Philip Bloom plus 7 months ago
    what do you mean?
  •
  • sonu2c 7 months ago
it is just cinemek g35 nothing else attached to it.
  • andy n 4 months ago
pretty sure none of those shots were with the stock lens. yes I believe bloom uses nikon and ziess primes. the cinemek is a 35mm adapter not a standalone add-on lens.

I am editing movies for some years now and youre cuts are in time synched and have a narrative element so they are fine :) the music in my opinion Is a bit too cool and heavy in the beginning - but this is artist freedom + message :)
