Straight to CHAOS. This is Hollywood.

My first time to Los Angeles, and I left my sweater on the back of the chair.

Beautiful man. You've got an amazing eye, and continue to impress me with your excellent work.

I imagine you colored this with Vegas?

Also, at 1:37, what settings did you use to capture that dark light overlooking the valley?
  • Matthew Brown plus 8 months ago
I just opened the aperture as far as I could. It's in the "Av" mode. Thanks for the comment!

Awesome video...05:03 is my favourite part.
Can you please tell me the title of the song?
  • Matthew Brown plus 8 months ago
Thanks for the comment! There are actually four songs throughout. The first one is Lisa Gerrard's "In Exile", the second is a clip from "Why So Serious" from The Dark Knight, the third and four are from the Brand X CDs.

very nice. are you using an HV30 as in some of your other videos, cause if you are I was wondering how you are getting the shallow depth of field that you used when filming the grass and the lady bug.

    2:10
    wow
  • Matthew Brown plus 8 months ago
Thanks Julia! After I shot the ladybug I went to someone's house who had this big painting of a ladybug on a wall that kind of matched what I had shot earlier, so I tried to match cut them together at 4:08. By the way, I think it's hilarious you did that flip book in your philosophy class, haha!

Thank you! I really wish I had more time to work on the transition. All I had was the jacket on the back of the chair to use, haha. I'm glad you liked it though! Thanks for the comment!

2:15 is simply amazing!!! what tool in vegas did you use to colour correct like that?
  • Matthew Brown plus 8 months ago
Are you talking about the Mulholland Drive shot or the guy with the camera? Thanks for the comment!
  • Paul Tarlevs 8 months ago
I'm talking about the Mulholland Drive shot.
  • Matthew Brown plus 8 months ago
I just altered the brightness, contrast, put more yellow in color correction, and desaturated it a little bit.

You have a most intangible yet obvious qualiity. A lot of your work is I, think, arbitrary and only loosely related. And yet some of it works remarkably well. I think you also disprove the axiom that every film must tell a story, because some of your projects are nothing more than an assembly of sometimes completely random shots that do little by way of "painting a picture", and yet seem remarkably to be properly interelated. I profess not to have a valuable critique, but I do consider you to have a certain, indefinable something. What the French would call, 'Je ne sais quoi'. I will simply call it very talented, perhaps even an element of genius.
    More power to your lens........

Watching your stuff inspires me. Thanks for sharing it. Can you share any tips about the colour post-processing? Your work always looks so lush. Was it all done with Vegas, or did you use something like Magic Bullet Looks?

Really good stuff man. Your work continues to impress me. Some parts I couldn't help but be reminded of David Lynch (the sequence starting at 3:12), which is definitely not a bad thing. Keep up the good work.

The ladybug cut at 4:08 was breathtaking. You are a master at fusing visuals with music, the tempo change with the jacket shot was perfect IMO.

Do you have a regular gig, or are you available for projects?
  • Matthew Brown plus 7 months ago
Thank you so much for the kind words. I wish I had a regular gig. I'm actually wide open. I appreciate the comment...thank you!

You are flippin' ridiculous man! The way you can shoot ordinary things, and along with the music, create such raw emotional reaction. I am floored by each of your videos!

Great work. I love the fact that you captured both sides of the city, not merely the gritty and glitzy stereotypes that most people find here.
