(Apr 05, 2012) The women behind the site Dolls Of Despair dollsofdespair.blogspot.com believe female horror fans deserve some eye candy of their own, so they've added a feature called The Delicious Dude Of The Week that gives male horror actors the same treatment female Scream Queens get on traditional male-oriented horror sites.
This week's Delicious Dude Of The Week is a very surprised Bill Oberst, Jr, known mainly for roles in horror-genre films imdb.com/name/nm2454994. The actor was taken aback both by his selection and the reaction to it. "I am definitely hearing from female fans," says Oberst, "and they want horror filmmakers to recognize their existence. I'm hardly a sex symbol, so it's been an unusual week."
In an online statement the site's co-founders said, "We decided to do a Delicious Dude of the Week at Dolls Of Despair to counter most of our peers who focus strictly on scream queens. Those blogs and websites devoted to horror religiously feature a hot women in horror, with endless photos and links to her products, sharing plenty of her T&A for their followers. Well, we women want our say, so we want to share our opinions on horror too! Contrary to popular belief, as it's been proven that women are more likely to be stimulated sexually via a more deep mental connection, we too enjoy and appreciate the male physique."
As for the selection of Oberst, a veteran actor recently crowned "The 2012 King Of Horror" by British fansite Erebus Horror erebushorror.wordpress.com/2012/03/28/king-of-horror/ and a man whose face and body is featured on many sites as the very epitome of creepiness, the Dolls Of Despair say "We think Bill has sex appeal as well as creep appeal and we loved featuring him! The Dolls want to create more opportunities for men in horror like Bill to get a spread on a blog or .com. Women horror fans can appreciate a nice set of knockers almost as much as their male counterparts, but we like our own flavor of eye candy, so we are making that possible. Hasn't it been long overdue?"
The site also hopes to foster more women filmmakers in the horror genre, adding "The Dolls Of Despair believe that women filmmakers can peek into the minds of a men and women alike, and do so much more successfully than men can anticipate the needs of both sexes. Women know what turns a man on; most of us female horror fans have been steeped in the traditional role of a woman in horror films. While we can usually appreciate a scream queen, or token female roles in horror, we find it has left us longing for more. Rather than continue to try to appeal to the senses of male filmmakers, many women have taken the horror filmmaking horse by the reigns and are writing, directing, producing, etc. their own horror films. The Dolls want to salute all women in the horror film making industry and shine more light on their work behind the scenes, as we believe female horror fans are being much better served by all their hard work!"
The Dolls of Despair say they started their blog "based solely on their being women fans of horror who 'want their say'!" Their efforts include the website and a podcast hosted by an all-girl team of interviewers and reviewers.
"The female horror fan base is huge and continues to grow daily." say the Dolls. "Those who think there isn't a female horror fan base are missing out on the endless opportunities to target this audience."
