From the hoop is a short 3D movie directed by 3 students of Supinfocom Arles in 2008.

Meet Earl fleeing through Harlem while he seeks for his life.

fromthehoop.com

The story is widely inspired by the life of Earl Manigault, one of the greatest basketball player of his generation who lose everything in drugs. The end of his life was dedicated to avoid children of Harlem having the same story.
So he started the "Walk Away From Drugs" tournament for kids. He died in 1998 from a heart failure.

That was truly insane. Very suspenseful, it was killing me. A great example of the classic underdog story, and well played out. The animation and graphics...intense. Great job.

    I wish I knew animation.

technicly exelent. Really well done. Very nice character design, modelling, rigging and animation. The backgrounds look great. But the story seems really poor. It doesn´t have any structure at all. In my personal opinion the literary script and the direction are the bases of a shorftilm or a movie, if that isn´t wright don´t go with it. In this case I think that you fell in love with the idea, the struggle against drugs and this Earl Manigault person as a reference, but forgot to write a really powerful script and direction that translate all of that. Cause just by watching the film I don´t get all this background information and I don´t percieve a story from it either.
I don´t mean to be rude, at all. But I´m used to be judged really hard with my own films, and those opinions, the honest ones are the ones that helped me improve myself. Keep the good work! :-)

I totally agree - the modeling, lighting effects were excellent, and having read the text I can now understand the backstory, but it needed a much clearer structure to make sense in the context. Perhaps even cut with a couple of text-panels near the start (or throughout).

The message is - make sure your material's *real* good if you want it to match with your animation skills.

    Nice work.
