Producer/host Bonnie D. Graham welcomes Lisa Ott, President of the North Shore Land Alliance – the lead sponsor of the Small Farm Summit, to be held April 14 at Hofstra University.

For nearly eight years, North Shore Land Alliance has worked to preserve open space by building stronger relationships between land and the people it supports.

The Long Island Small Farm Initiative, a project of the Land Alliance, is a consortium that brings together a diverse group of organizations that all share an interest in local food, land use, and the farm-to-table chain.

“Long Island will be stronger, wealthier, and healthier when farming gets the attention it deserves and flourishes throughout our communities. Making this happen will take a collective resolve of all of us – private individuals, nonprofits, business enterprises, and government agencies at all levels,” says Ms. Ott.

She discusses the history of farming on Long Island, school and community gardens, farm-to-table, field–to-label, sustainable fishing and more.
