On "Financial Fools Day", 2009 I followed the demonstrators from London Bridge to the Bank of England as they protested the G20 summit.

I was wary of the media's hyping of the potential for violence and so I wanted to concentrate on the more festive aspects of the event and so steered clear of the inevitable trouble.

This kind of reporting is detrimental to the wider public, I feel, as it means that a lot of people who would otherwise wish to join the ranks, would instead avoid it. And that's a shame.

I used a Flip Mino camcorder mounted on a tiny fig rig and a Nikon D200.

This film will be on Vimeo for only a few days then it moves to Current.com once they fix their technical glitches.

If you enjoy this film, please tell your friends and colleagues. And tell me too as I'd like some feedback. Video is a new departure for me as a photojournalist.

Thank you.

nice video and an interesting approach to mix video and photo. Sometimes video shows more and you have the advantage you also capture the sound in decent quality. Especially with the music. However, i loved to see more of your wonderful photos in this video.
Isn't it extra difficult to switch between video and photo when walking aound?

Oh you bet it is. I had my tiny Flip Mino mounted on a small home made fig rig and put it around my wrist while I shot the stills. The audio is simply that which the Flip captured. Very unsophisticated indeed.

I was merely playing around with this little project as it was the first time I started thinking seriously about making the move to motion capture.

I've been a stills photojournalist since 1992 and now want to do more and more hd video but I have no gear. Hoping soon the get my hands on the Panasonic GH1. The street photographer in me likes the small size and big capability. I can also stick on my legacy Nikkors.

So, going forward I want to do more of this kind of work, mixing stills and video together to make small form documentaries.

    Thanks for commenting.
