Join us as Dr. Steve Benner, a chemist and synthetic biologist from the University of Florida, discusses Science, Life and the Universe! Dr. Benner discusses the complications of the scientific method and examines scientists in an anthropological sense, touching on the challenges scientists had to face historically when trying to prove theories that met with adversity. Next he explores effort to detect life on Mars, recapping the Viking mission. Dr. Benner then discusses the origin of life and the possibility of alternatives to life as we know it, such as RNA life, Arsenic life, life on Titan and synthetic life. DMNS’s Curator of Astrobiology, Dr. David Grinspoon introduces the speaker.
