Cult of Dell acolytes often claim that "Dells are better than PCs." This categorical nonsense is akin to saying "Volkswagens are better than Cars" and is plainly ridiculous. Dells are PCs!

Yes, this is tongue-in-cheek, but I think the point of the video (and each individual claim) is valid. Check out the article on the new Hp Z Workstations vs. Mac Pros for a more serious treatment of the same topic at:

Informative as always. And the graphics work is really cool also, loved the appearing/suspended laptop... very clever.

I have run Google search for "dells are better than pcs" and could find only two links, one to videopia.org, another to your video on YouTube. Where did you get this quote?

P.S. "fanboi"? I bet you rushed this episode out ;-)
  • Robert-Jon Eckhardt 8 months ago
    or that might've been intentional...
  • Videopia plus 8 months ago
"fanboi" was intentional, but yes, this is just a goofy episode I rushed out - tongue firmly in cheek:

You are right, I haven't heard anyone say "Dells are better than PCs," but I have heard a similar phrase before...
  • Tim Warneka 7 months ago
Interestingly, I actually heard someone use the phrase, "Dells are better ..." at an office I was at last week.

The categorically flawed logic threw me off for a moment.

I think the target of your criticism slipped by a few folks.
    I really like this.

Thank you! As nice as always! What kind of software do you use for prompter?
  • Videopia plus 8 months ago
I'm using Prompt! It ain't fancy, but it does exactly what it needs to do with no hassles and is better than the $500 "professional" software I used at my last job. Highly recommended:

    I couldn't agree more mate :)))
And when they break down and you need to send them BACK to dell, see how long it takes them to get it back to you and if they have managed to fix the problem ?? I have heard sooo many bad story from people about dell's back up service that you really wouldn't want to buy a Dell.

Once again mate another very informative vid :))
Keep em coming, Great Job :)))

Actually, Dell has an in-home service plan, which is better than finding a local repair shop (Geek Squad, Genius Bar...), but please, don't take that as a Dell endorsement! I'm pretty company-agnostic: Dell (like other companies) makes cheap crap and some nicer stuff. (Although I must admit, I'm pretty loyal to Sony camcorders, Canon still cameras and Toyota cars! Unless of course there's someone out there from Panasonic, Nikon or Lotus that would like to steal away my loyalties...)

    Build your own computer.

  • just to let you know eventhough i love DELLs i am open to criticism with facts about what Dell really offers...jiji i do support what he mentions at the end about looking out for performance and reliability upon whatever it is you'll be using it for... He mostly mentions laptops...i like pc's power performance plus i am now using HD video software editing wich is really heavy on the performance and memory... i need an i7 processor for sure!!!!

Hehe, sorry, this is one of my lamest videos. This is meant to be a jab at Macheads (substitute "Mac" for "Dell" and it's much sharper).

I thought it was funny, but I think we can call this one a failure.

what is the best laptop that i can use to edit my short films with using an avid system.

    P.S: IT MOST BE CHEAP!
  • Videopia plus 5 months ago
Quite honestly, I hate editing on a laptop. Now, there might be a reason you are forced to do this (travel, producing a quick montage of a wedding for the reception), but most laptops-for-editing end up tethered to the wall anyhow, so if it must be CHEAP, you need a desktop.

Toy Story III is partially edited on a MacBook Pro running Avid. And yes, I have photographic proof.

I personally just build my own PC.

Also, the academic Adobe software CAN BE used for commercial/paying jobs (in North America that is).
    adobe.com/education/students/studentedition/faq.html

When I get around to needing a laptop, I plan on getting a MacBook pro. Yeah it costs more, but has a ton of features that are stinkin' awesome.

6 months ago for the first time I bought a brand name PC over a custom built machine. Its the Dell XPS Studio desktop. It's been unstable, my 23" monitor crapped out on me yesterday and when it did work it had horrible light leakage around the edges. Needless to say not happy with it.

At work I use a Dell workstation T3500 and it also has some stability issues probably attributable to Vista, still I've worked with HP workstations and they seem to run more smoothly in Vista.

    I had an Uncle Dell.
    He was a wonderful man.
Not particularly PC on most topics.
My Uncle Mac thought he was better than Uncle Dell.
    But guess what?
He was just a shameless self promoter.
