Team Dream Speaker: Dean Hewson February 26, 2012 - Part Two: Finding Inspiration and Support
During our monthly meeting on February 26, Dean was kind enough to speak to our Team Dreamers about his personal experiences and the various myths related to training for a triathlon. Some of these points included getting a quality workout, avoiding quick fixes, time management and the importance of support. This is a clip from that meeting
Dean completed his first triathlon in 1991 and immediately fell in love with the sport and its lifestyle. Triathlon inspired him to turn his life around. Now he uses his knowledge of training and racing to motivate others. He believes that triathlon can offer valuable insights that can help you with the never-ending process of becoming who you want to be in the real world.
Though he started as a back-of-the-packer who couldn’t swim the length of the pool, Dean stuck with it and can now boast that he represented Canada at 6 World Championships, was named the Captain of the Canadian National Team, completed 7 Ironmans, finished the Hawaii Ironman twice, and was the US National Ultra-Distance Age-Group Champion.
Dean lives in Palatine, Illinois, with his wife, Paula, and his 2 year-old daughter, Maggie. He is a technical writer, public speaker, and an unconventional triathlon coach.
