Sanyo VPC-FH1 1080 60P
After a massive photo/video gear sell off and re-purchase( sold the 5D2, HV20, old computer & bought a 40D,ef-s 10-22, quadcore comp &) I ended up with the Sanyo VPC-FH1 for video.
Pro's
Full manual control over Aperture, shutterspeed and ISO
Its micro sized, fits in my front shorts pocket
1080 60P ---Awesome
records to SD cards
Con's
low bitrate, quality down a bit from the HV20
Focus is a touch slow
LCD really sucks, it posterizes all over the place.
4 out my 1st 22 clips had a massive purple band from top to bottom on the right hand side. I have not seen it since. I'm going to at least exchange it if not return it for this reason alone.
I also have had a tough time editing it with my new Vista X64 system. I upgreded to Vegas 8 pro and the 60P clips crash it instantly when you click on a 60P clip to import it.
I installed 8.1 pro and it can edit the files fine but then the render usually crashes from low memory even though it' only usung 2.5 gigs out of 8gig. Or it just falls out of render for no reason.
Aslo 8.1 doesn't come with the free cineform codec.
This was one of the only clips I got to fully render so far.
All 1080 60P , some slowed 50% and some conformed to 30P

I hope things work out for you bud, it would kill me if I had to sell off my gear - I've worked so bloody hard for it! I recently had my D80 stolen from me so I can maybe sympathise with you in some way with the loss. I now have to get to grips with the D90 - something I have been putting off.
Anyway, this video looks pretty good and maybe when you get round the limitations of your PC you can experiment with colour correction too :)
Keep making videos bud and you're long overdue with a time lapse ;-)
Stay cool.
Rob.
I also sold my HV20 because I was tired of drop-outs and having to capture on my wifes laptop then tranfer to a thumb drive or DVD then load it to my desktop. It's wierd neither of my HDV cams would work with my last 2 computer including my new one.
So after all that I got a sweet 40D kit, an new super computer , and a new HF-S100 for my 5D2 & HV20.
I had to return the VPC FH1 because it was defective.
Thanks Be , Hopefully I will get some timelapse shoots in here soon.
cheerio
Thx for that vid.
I have some serious issues with my 1080/60p material. Its truly a big pain in the a**. I tried Vegas 8.1 (64bit) edition on my vista64 but the preview is really terrrible. The video gets stuck and doesn't feel smooth at all.
I tried all kind of edit-programs but nothing was able to handle the 60p stuff. I am now working on a solution with Adobe Media Encoder and convert/transcode the stuff to AVI. Unfortunately the cineform codec isn't working properbly.
btw. I have a quadcore AMD, 4gig, 512mb card, RAID0 but it's truly a major pain. Already called Sanyo and they said: we only offer the camera - no software solutions.
I ended up returning it because it was defective and getting the Canon HF-S100. I will probably rebuy it later for the 60P once vegas is stable with the 60P files.
It is awesome for set up shots where you have time.
I will look forward to the 60D with video and possibly get that one a year from now when it comes out.
Another interesting and well done clip! Looks like a National Geographic channel segment. DOF, Sharpness, Color all outstanding. I can't see where the quality is any less than the HV20.
I installed Vegas Pro 8.0c and 8.1 on a Vista 64 bit (4 gb ram) laptop and like you have had a variety of glitches, so I reinstalled Vegas 7 on my old XP machine for when the others act up.
It is a sweet cam but mine was faulty. I ended up getting the HF-S100 but I would like to rebuy the Sanyo for action stuff someday. I think I may sell some old R/C stuff to pay for it.
Vista has been glitchy for me so far but I am stuck with it now.
My own tests it had way more noise but I bought it for day time action stuff so it's not a problem.
I ended up getting the HF-S100 and it is pretty much great all around I think. Sharper than the HV20 and I think it is awesome in low light. If you do a lot of sports or anything action the VPC-FH1 might be better for capturing action and especially for slowmotion.
With 60p you can slow it down for perfect 50% slowmo with no artifacting.
BUT, I haven't found a render setting that outputs footage as good as the raw played from the cam to an HDTV. Tried 1920x1080 blue ray and mp4 on a media player. Both resulted in an obvious downgrade. Not sure if Vegas doesn't like the 60p or the sanyo. Will try 60i footage this weekend.
I made a 1920x1080 30p mp4 template for rendering and it looks awesome .
Great. thx. have you ever tried converting via Cineform?
I would really like to get the 60P worked out on the editing end so I can re-buy this little cam.
Vegas works fine with 60p
But only with uncompressed avi....... really ..
I have played with it.....
And i use vegas 8.0c (build 260)
ps.
you can ad more ram for preview (standard is 1024mb)
But you can set this higher thru the "internal" tab.
My problem still with the clips I have is 8.0c crashes instantly but 8.1 works fine except 8.1 does not have cineform for me to transcode them to to use in 8.0c.
People have told me that if you put a 60i clip in the timeline in 8.0c first then you can put in the 60p's but I have not got it to work yet.
and try to set the ram for preview higher then the 1024.
Nice work mate....
That's a great story. I like your new avatar pic.
The 2 things I found I needed to buy are 1st CoreAVC Pro codec $14 which will play all AVCHD videos smoothly on windows media player and then NEO Scene from Cineform.
Max what do you edit with?
The front filter is 37mm and the HD2000 is 40.5mm.
I also put ISO on the joystick. Automode can boost the ISO in low light and create more noise than I like. I did a little test by viewing on my HDTV directly while recording. In low light, ISO up to 400 looked good. Anything above that I prefer to manually adjust to balance noise/light.
adobe premiere 4.0
File:wmw 600 mb 12mb/s bitrate
Has any one tried adobe premiere`??
And is there any toggle feature for manual focus?
Thanks :D
