John Rose and Simon Baddeley, Jack Hargreaves' stepson, drove a transit van from Birmingham to the South West Film and Television Archive in Plymouth to collect films and tapes used to make Jack's' programmes 'Out of Town' on Southern Television between 1960-1981 and 'Old Country' for Channel 4 from 1982-1985.
In this clip David Knowles who produced and directed 'Old Country' and was also closely involved with 'Out of Town' while working with Jack Hargreaves at Southern, describes the format of the media on shelves at Plymouth - mainly 16mm film shot by Jack's long term cameraman Stan Bréhaut and 1/4" reel-to-reel sound tape. Also in the collection are tapes from Old Country which David Knowles has taken to his home to see what they contain. Also helping load the films was Jenny Knowles. On the following day the collection was moved by Simon to secure storage in Birmingham city centre. The collection fits easily into a unit 8 foot high with a floor area of 36 square feet.
