The village of Urzica, in the southern part of Romania. A massive deforestation began in the 1970s when the Communist Regime tried to mechanize agriculture in the region. This, together with the tough local climate, generated instability and now the land is becoming a desert. Since 2006, the authorities and the local community have been conducting a reforestation project, but this still leaves a number of unsolved problems. The film explores the area around the village and the past of its inhabitants, in an effort to understand how it was possible for a small agricultural community to endanger the natural equilibrium it relied upon for hundreds of years.
