It begins spontaneously. The music starts—a live recording of a classic soul singer (Aretha Franklin, say). Dancers emerge from the audience, embodying the passion of the singer through their motion. This is the Soul Project, conceived of and directed by David Zambrano in collaboration with a cast of seven remarkable performers from Mozambique, Slovenia, Greece, Slovakia, the U.S., and Venezuela. A series of virtuosic solos, the program is a function of chance, for artists and audience to discover together.
