Ive been reading the Bible and trying to figure out the answer to that. As im sure many people are. But so far I can only say that it is the world that ignores those countries and that through us, God does have a plan. And that if we all found Love in our hearts, we as Gods creation can help those in need. But i'm still wondering why it is up to us. I don't mean to sound bad, but why does God let some countries suffer and some countries prosper? Is it just because the prosperous countries are not helping, or because thats Gods plan?
Please give me your opinion. It would really help.
Thanks and God Bless,
Preston
In respect to tragedy's i.e. children in 3rd world countries dying, and never hearing the gospel, first we must consider the love and fairness of God, He is all knowing, He knows they are there, and what they are going through. Even more so, Christ Himself endured the worst of all pains while He wasn't deserving of it to reconcile people to the Father. Another thought... I once heard Pastor John Piper talk about a mother in his church who has a child with some sort has down-syndrome or some other diagnosis similar to that, and he fought and fought to answer why God would allow a child to be like that. Then in a prayer meeting that same mother began to pray, and in her prayer she related to how much hatred she has for the illness that has rattled her child to the effects of sin, finishing her prayer saying "Father, may I hate sin as much as I hate all of the undescribable pain in this world." Ultimately pointing to tragedy and ascribing sin as the culprit, ultimately charging us to flee sin, and urge us more to run to Christ, and point other people to Him in the process.
In regards to the question about other countries being better off than others, looking now we can see the injustice, but Christ will return and bring down wrath on those who don't know him. New Heavens, New Earth, whether ya take that literally that it will be this planet we're walking on or not, one thing we can be sure of, is that redemption will rule the day. Ultimately I can't answer a specific "why?" due to the fact that it is in God's plan, He is all knowing, He knows EVERYTHING. At the end of the day, we're charged by the Gospel to help wherever we are placed, whether it's in Cambodia, or in Florida.
Keep thinking, and wrestling with God over these things, also pick up some C.S. Lewis books, he's dealt with a lot of similar questions.
in Christ, our King,
Devin Murphy
about certain countries being better off than others.
I was blessed to be born and raised in South Africa, a country that has one of the highest crime rates in the world, and where injustice is simply part of daily life for most citizens. I moved with my family to the US about two years ago and have been able to see what it is like living in both a 1st and 3rd world country.
And to put it simply man, because sin is so prevelent all over the world, no one is better off. some places in the world just SEEM better off.
from a worldly view, the US most certainly is more physically comfortable and technologically, medically and industrially more advanced than most countries. and the living conditions in most African (other 3rd world coutries aswell I assume) countries are very harsh and difficult to strive financially in.
But as Christians we know that all of this "stuff" in very temporary and from a Kingdom or spiritual view, the US, for the most part, has been hindered by a materialistic lifestyle. Talking relationship with Chirst, comfort often leads to complacent, which leads to satisfaction. and any Christian who is satisfied with where they are in there walk with God is missing the point you know.
form a spiritual view, Christians living in 3rd world countries, having less worldly distractions are able to focus more of God and what is truly important.
I stayed in Uganda for about two weeks, it is one of the poorest nations in Africa and in those two weeks I was able to experience God on a whole other level, no phone, computer, money, lust, media, nothing like that man. and for those two weeks I felt so free man, and as soon as i got back to the states and started simply living my life here, that freedom become harder to see, and I know there was a direct effect with surroundings.
and i know not all Christians inafrica are free and not all Christians in the US are completely distracted, but in general. know what I mean.
it is more of a question of spiritual suffering, or physical suffering.
thanks for asking those questions man, it helped me. reading the other posts and going over this in my head and realy thinking about helps straighten htings out.
peace.
