This was the only sort of open public building within walking distance that was open past 9pm by the house. Often enough we would trek out there late at night when we needed something to mix with our rum, our maybe some frozen food to bring back to the microwave. Many times we would try to make a scene out of it and the store attendants love it. I think as long as they weren't being robbed, they enjoyed the entertainment. Syed was the store clerk we saw the most often and was quite a character. We offered for him to come over and drink with us once. He said he would love to come over some time, but that he has never had a drink in his life. Maybe it was best he didn't come over. The man had shown us gunshot wounds from the war back in Pakistan and also had been held up at gunpoint 3 times since working at the store.
