Dr. George C. Bunch, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Education at UC Santa Cruz.
In this UCSC Education Department Colloquium talk, Dr. Bunch reports on an ongoing project that aims to document some of the language and literacy demands facing US-educated language minority students as they pursue higher education at the community college level, the first step in many students’ post secondary endeavors. Conceiving of language and literacy as “ways of doing” in academic and professional settings, Dr. Bunch examines a variety of course materials associated with academic degree programs and professional certificates offered at one community college in the San Francisco Bay Area that serves students in the linguistically diverse “New Mainstream” of American education.
