The "Starved for Attention" campaign to combat childhood malnutrition began in 2009, spearheaded by Doctors without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and VII Photo. The campaign brought together some of the world’s most accomplished and award-winning photojournalists to tell the rich and disparate stories of malnutrition from Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, India, Mexico, and the United States. Bluecadet built an immersive, experiential site in 2009 to share these stories.
The site was effective, but this year MSF decided they wanted to make the petition more prominent. To help them achieve their goal of 250,000 signatures, we began an aggressive two week project to re-create the site to better prompt users to sign the petition, and to utilize immersive scrolling to let visitors get lost in the photography. The redesign showcases the touching narratives and content that MSF hoped to bring to the campaign, while keeping the importance of what they're doing front and center.
The site is now built in HTML, utilizing jquery for subtle parallax scrolling effects. Visitors can quickly scroll through the multimedia stories and sign the petition. Doctors without Borders now uses the site on an iPad to canvas for signatures as the photo exhibit tours the world.
